Mixbook Holiday Cards Review

mixbook holiday cardsI know it’s a little early to be talking about Christmas, Chanukah, and snow, but I am already getting my holiday card list together.  My husband and I live in Minnesota with our children, but our extended family lives in Florida, California, Michigan, Missouri… take a breath … list about 20 other places.  We are spread out all over the place.  Since we’ve been together, we’ve made a tradition of sending personalized Christmas cards each year.  Cards featuring pictures of our family and the kids bring our families closer.  Recipients can see how much the kids have changed, who has gotten a new haircut and which of our four kids have finally outgrown me.

Through the years, I have tried MANY personalized card sites.  Most of their cards tended to be the same.  Some of them even used the same templates.  The options were slim and I usually felt pigeon-holed into selecting from a few mediocre cards.  Recently, I was given the opportunity to try Mixbook.com.   Mixbook stands apart from the crowd.  Mixbook’s designs were fresh and original.  I hadn’t seen them before – and I couldn’t believe the array of choices!  So many choices.  I had a hard time deciding which card I wanted to try out.  I definitely didn’t feel like I was confined to the land of mediocrity.

When I say Mixbook’s cards are customized, I mean that you creative types can start with a blank card and build it completely from scratch.  However, if (like me) you don’t have time for that or are not artistically inclined, you can use any one of Mixbook’s 100′s of layouts (and further customize them).  You can even customize the BACK of the card. I finally settled on a design and began uploading my pictures to Mixbook.   Building my own personalized holiday card was effortless.  I chose the “Christmas Lights” 5×7 flat card. Choosing the photos came next.  I uploaded my photos from my computer, but you can also choose to access your Facebook, Flickr.com and other online albums.  The uploader was relatively fast.

After uploading the photos, it was just a matter of dragging and dropping the pictures where I wanted them on the front AND the back of the card.  I found that I could alter any of the graphics on the card with just a click.  I could change the colors, I could change the embellishments, the font – and it was so intuitive that even my 10 year old daughter could have done it.  In fact, if  you are lost for ideas and inspiration, Mixbook allows you to invite contributors from your friends to give you some suggestions.  After you finish, you can share your finished project with others and determine who can (and cannot) see it.  I chose to make mine public for the purpose of this review and you can see my finished Mixbook Holiday Card here.
